My life is a collection of quotes

Life is like a confused teacher. First she gives the test and then teaches the lesson. ~ Drake

I was once asked in a job interview this question: What makes you an interesting person? I didn’t know how to answer that so I just said the first quote that came to my mind at that time. I couldn’t remember what was it exactly but it was from one of my all-time favorite books, Harry Potter. I love quotes. I love quoting people – whether they’re famous or not. I especially like sharing these quotes in every possible way – through text messaging, by mouth, posting it as a shout out on Facebook, tweet-ing about it, or as a broadcast message on YM.

I actually have a collection of quotes from the Internet. It’s quite a huge collection, ranging from quotes about life, love, friendship, work, values, shopping or from music, movies, artists, famous people, etc. My personal favorites are the sarcastic and bitchy quotes. I noticed that when you post such quotes, no matter how mean they sound, people like them and they react.

I realized my life is one big collection of quotes. It’s funny how these quotes came from different people and yet I could relate to them. These quotes make me realize a lot of things on a day-to-day basis. It helps me feel better. It makes me smile and laugh out loud. It gives me a sort of secondhand advice. It helps me cope with anything. I get strength from them.

Lately, I’ve been collecting quotes by Drake. This rapper is not even one of my favorites but I came across a collection of quotes from him (probably from his songs or something) and I immediately got hooked. Everyday I use one of the many quotes by Drake and share it with others. Here are some of my fave:

“Everybody dies but not everybody lives.” (That rare moment when I think about death.)

“Don’t ask permission, just ask forgiveness.” (That moment when I ‘accidentally’ ate my roommate’s cheesecake.)

“Until you find yourself, its impossible to lose you.” (That moment when my bad sense of direction kicks in and I get lost on my way somewhere.)

“Don’t go through life, grow through life.” (That moment when I think I’m not getting any taller.)

So you see, I get a blast laughing out loud at how accurate and timely these quotes are in relation to my life. I always thought rap songs are full of crap. Don’t get me wrong, I love hip-hop but sometimes I feel like the lyrics of rap songs are a sad excuse for what seemed to be poetic but grammatically wrong sentences. Some examples:

‘”All about my cheese, Mozzarella, Provolone” – Lil Wayne – Seriously?! He’s rapping about CHEESE! CHEESE! Geez.

“Watch out for the medallion my diamonds are reckless. Feels like a MIDGET is hanging from my necklace.” – Ludacris… Poor midget. Tsk tsk.

“You should make your own toilet tissue, since you the shit.”  – Kanye West… Okay this one’s kinda funny. LOL.

Recently, I found some quotes by Lil Wayne and I was surprised at how much they make sense. It started when I listened to his sweet ballad “How to love”. The lyrics were just so heart melting that I instantly loved the song. The guy’s kinda witty and deep compared to other rappers. Some of my fave quotes by Lil Wayne are:

“I search, but never find. Hurt, but never cry. I work and forever tired.” (This quote says it all about my life.)

“If everyone was like you the world would be a better place.” (This would be the sweetest thing a guy could say to me ~ )

“I’m a new song and you’re just a remix.” (This is something I’d say to my guy’s ex-girlfriend. LOL.)

It goes to show that we shouldn’t judge a rapper by the lack of subject-verb agreement and proper verb tenses in his songs. Some of them are deep and worthy of listening to. 😉

Last but definitely NOT the least are the quotes by Taylor Swift. Okay, this singer is like the expert on everything related to  relationships, life, family and friendship. At least from a fellow girl’s point of view. All her songs are ‘relate-able’, from her sad love songs to her upbeat country music. Most of the quotes by Taylor Swift are so wonderfully sweet and painfully true at the same time. Listening to her songs made me feel like reminiscing with my past 24 years of life on earth. Some examples:

“Just be yourself, there is no one better.” (Back in high school when I thought I should change into a badass & dumb chick to fit in.)

“Giving up doesn’t always mean your weak, sometimes it just means you’re strong enough to let go.” (Happened more than a few times in my life.)

“I don’t let nobody see me wishin’ he was mine.” (I always do this. I admire guys secretly. And until now, they are still not aware that I fantasized about them. Haha. I’m a ninja yo!)

“If you’re horrible to me, I’m going to write a song about it, and you won’t like it. That’s how I operate.” (For me, it’s my diary. It’s sort of like a long list of people I’d want to strangle…)

If my life was a book, it would definitely be a book packed with various quotes from the most diverse set of people. I would even include some quotes from ordinary people in my life – like my family, friends, my landlady… It’s fun to look back and reminisce on life with these quotes. It may seem stupid to some but for me, these quotes cheer me up when I’m down and they make me seem cool coz I get lots of LIKES and RETWEETS on FB and Twitter respectively. 😀

Of course I’ll end this blog post with a quote. ^-^

“Live without pretending, love without depending, listen without defending, speak without offending.” ~ Drake
